Wildlife Management Plans
The Texas Legislature provides for taxation of qualified open-space land at agricultural use rates provided the land is currently devoted to principally to agricultural use for five of the preceding years. Wildlife management is an agricultural use that qualifies the land for agricultural appraisal. Its benefits are taxation at lower agricultural rates while fostering and enjoying the wildlife on your property. Wildlife management is actively using land in at least three of seven ways each year to propagate a sustaining breeding, migrating, or wintering population of indigenous wild animals for human use, including food, medicine or recreation.
WEI can develop your Wildlife Management Plan for the wildlife species most feasible for your property and appropriate practices including habitat control, erosion control, predator control, providing supplemental supplies of water, providing supplemental supplies of food, providing shelter and making census counts to determine population.
A typical plan includes completing the Texas Parks and Wildlife 1-D-1 Open Space Agricultural Valuation Management Plan and a plan specific to your property exhibiting the measures proposed and submitted to the tax appraisal district in your county.
